about us

Alan Minchin trained as a carpenter and joiner, and set up Hill-Top Joinery in 1988. The company produces anything from bespoke hardwood staircases, to individual pieces of furniture. Being based in the Cotswolds where it is common to find buildings dating back to the 17th century, Alan has a wealth of practical on-site experience of working in historic buildings, including houses belonging to the National Trust.

Chris Eckersley originally had an art-school training, and became a freelance designer and maker in the 1970s. He is passionate about buildings and spends time drawing and researching them. His specialist knowledge and interests range from classical architecture to the Modern Movement. Chris is a former tutor in Design at Central Saint Martins College, London, and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA). In 2014 he was awarded a Design Guild Mark by the Worshipful Company of Furnituremakers.

'With a shared interest in good craftsmanship we have worked together on various projects since 1989. Over the years we've built up a network of skilled specialists - from traditional carvers to modern polyester finishers - any of whom can be brought in when needed. It’s a popular myth that ‘there are no skilled craftsmen left anymore’ - we aim to disprove this ! We believe that we offer a better service than many fitted furniture suppliers because of our professional attitude to design, and to installation. Not only do we make an excellent product; we regard good design and well-planned installation as a big part of the job.

We can help you with solutions for any fitted furniture project, including bedrooms, bathrooms, bookcases, home offices, and fitted kitchens. As kitchens are the most complicated jobs, often involving the management of many different trades, this website presents three kitchen case-studies. But every job is different and we will work with you to create exactly what you have in mind.'
